Dr. Borislav Slavov Borisov is a chief expert-linguist in the Department of Slavic Studies of the ‘Paisii Hilendarski’ University of Plovdiv. He completes his high education in the ‘Atanas Dimitrov’ Technical School of Electrical Engineering in Nova Zagora. The same year he is approved for ‘Paisii Hilendarski’ University in the specialty of Slavic philology with Czech. He takes all his exams in Slavic studies in 1999 and in 2000 after three months’ specialization in Masarikov University in Brno, Czech Republic, he successfully defending his master’s work, he graduates. In the autumn of 2001 he starts working at the University of Plovdiv as a part-time assistant in Methodology of Teaching Bulgarian. Within this discipline he directs seminars, Control and Evaluation of the Teaching Process and pre-graduating training of students from all philological specialties in the University. In 2003 he becomes a PhD student at the Department of Slavic Philology with a dissertation entitled “Characteristics of codification of Bulgarian and Czech language during the Renaissance” (with a tutor Prof. Dr. Margarita Mladenova).Since 2004 he directs seminars on historical grammar of Czech (and since 2009 also lectures on this discipline), Czech, and a special discipline called “Translation Workshop”. He is a member of the editorial board of the journal “Slavic dialogues”, a publication by the Philological Faculty of the University, and The Scientific writings of PU (philology). He has taken part in various conferences and academic pulpits such as: International Slavic Symposium in November 2003, P. Hilendarski (with a report entitled “Some more interesting cases in the future tense of translation of Bulgarian and Czech); VI International Balkan Symposium in Brno, Czech Republic, 25-27 April 2005 (with a report called ‘The mission of the Renaissance grammar’);The Balkan Symposium at the Union of Scientists in Plovdiv, June 2006 (with a report entitled ‘The Bulgarian and Czech Renaissance in Socio-linguistic aspect “); Readings dedicated to the young bohems in connection with the 40-year anniversary of the department, ‘Czech for foreigners’ to Masarikoviya University in Brno, Czech Republic, August 2007; International Slavic Conference of The Plovdiv University “P. Hilendarski in November 2008; etc.
Within his regular PhD work, he has two specializations on the dissertation’s topic:
– A three months’ specialization on the topic of the dissertation in the period of 23. II. 2004 – 23. V. 2004 in the Philosophy Faculty at Masarikov University, Brno, Czech Republic;
– A two months’ specialization on the topic of the dissertation in the period of 01.X. 2005 – 01. XII. 2005 in the Philosophical Faculty at Karlovia University, Prague, Czech Republic program CEEPUS. In 2009, after a successful defense before the Special Board of linguistics at the Higher Attestation Commission, he receives the scientific and academic degree “PhD”.
He is a member of the Linguistic Club since 2004 and has participated in the project of creating a multilingual dictionary of the linguistic terms, and also in the editorial board of the collections of reports by the National Conferences for undergraduate and graduate students (Plovdiv, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008): ‘Beyond the words: the shiftings of meaning’, ‘Words: images and reflections’ and ‘Texts and readings’.
